Slaraffenland. Private Cinema is one of those records that just screams “album.” There are one million and one ideas pouring out of every nook and cranny. Little drops of sunshine pelt you in the face until a summer thunderstorm sneaks up from behind you. Startled, you turn and take it head-on. The songs are rarely in a hurry to get where they are going, but it’s such a delight when they arrive. Rock (post and otherwise), jazz (avant and otherwise), electronics (both “out there” and accessible), and vocals (sung, shouted, chanted, & hummed) all find themselves intermingling. What’s it sound like? We're not quite sure. I guess to us, it sounds like Slaraffenland. Based in Copenhagen, Slaraffenland found its final formation in 2002: Christian Taagehøj, Mike Taagehøj, Bjørn Heebøll, Niklas Antonsson, and Jeppe Skjold. "Band To Watch: ...it's sure to muster raves across the board." - Stereogum "The shimmering opener is Sun Ra as played by Broken Social Scene...a waterfall dripping woodwinds followed by some rock chords followed by a posse of brass. The pieces are full of episodic passages - distorted rock will cosy up to a foggy wall of brass, itinerant vocals will arrive for a while and move on, a fleeting guest appearance on a musical variety show. Next on, Slinty post rock followed by free-jazz blow-out - anything is fair game." - Americana UK ABOUT THIS VISUAL ART ON THIS HOMETAPES RELEASE: See a preview here! http://www.home-tapes.com/mov/ht016big.mov The CD will feature visual art and packaging by Friends With You, the world-famous duo from Miami. In the past few years, Friends With You have turned museums, stores, and malls upside down with playful, mind-bending playground-like installations. They make art you can climb up, slide down, push and pull - and they began doing so years ago with the creation of their initial collection of plush creatures, the ancestors of their legendary (and magical) Malfis and their shiny and almost-edible Good Wood Gang. Just recently, Friends With You Have Powers, a veritable art history on FWY, was published by design press Die Gestalten. And what else? They flew blimps over the beach during Art Basel Miami this past winter. They designed four rooms in Hotel Fox in Copenhagen. And, now, they are part of the Hometapes family! https://www.friendswithyou.com/ |
