Graveyard Shift

by Scott H. Biram

PREACHING FROM THE FIRST CHURCH OF ULTIMATE FANATICISM, keeping one eye on the collection plate and the other on the girls with short skirts in the front row, Austin’s Scott H. Biram returns to his pulpit, delivering more of his trademark call-and-response psychobilly gospel with his looming message: “Whiskey and holy water’ll both burn you if you ain’t careful.”

Graveyard Shift is Scott H. Briam’s highly anticipated follow-up release to 2005’s The Dirty Old One Man Band. It’s raw, it’s muddy, it’s chaos, it’s ultra-primal blues and rock-and-roll with a country heart beating underneath. It’s incomparable to any one-man band we’ve seen or heard. Biram and his squalling ‘59 Gibson hollow-body electric throw down the salvation with such gavel-like conviction that you’ll actually start to believe his dose of snake oil just might cure the lame, make the blind see, and stop that goddamned woman from pissing you off.

Years of compulsive touring along with a steady diet of down and dirty blues, rock, punk, country, and hillbilly have developed Scott H. Biram’s signature concoction, attracting a hefty array of fans who dig the bizarre and twisted sides of the rock and roll spectrum. His live shows unleash a Lemmy-sized metal attitude, a stomping, pulsing John Lee Hooker-channeling and cockeyed tales of black water baptisms and murder all while romanticizing the on-the-road lifestyle.

Biram has pounded the pavement (quite literally, actually), covering just about every inch of the US, sharing co-bills with heavy-hitters including Hank Williams III, Hasil Adkins, and Kris Kirstopherson. After sharing a few tour dates, Nashville Pussy recently covered Biram’s “Rasin’ Hell Again,” available on their 2005 recent release. Biram’s gospel has even spread overseas. After spending the first half of 2006 across the Atlantic, he’s got the French referring to his style as (say in an outrageous French accent) “Americain primitivo.”

Catch Scott H. Biram on his extensive 2006 US HEADLINING CD RELEASE TOUR this summer and fall, including a co-headline bill with The Legendary Shack Shakers in April 2006 and a featured appearance at Bloodshot Records 2006 CMJ Showcase.
